In my mind, there’s one question that every college kid knows and dreads: what do you want to do after graduation? With my first Bachelor’s (business administration), it was a question I didn’t know how to answer (gee Alicyn, maybe because you were studying the wrong thing…). Now, for Bachelor’s #2, I’m can confidently answer the question by stating I’m going to be a dietitian. This solution, however, presents a new problem: most people don’t know what a dietitian is. Those with a vague inkling smile and nod, making a mental note to never go to dinner with me, as I’m now a member of the food police. Some people (when given more information) proceed to tell me about their friend who is taking a course online to be a nutritionist, too. Others launch into their diet woes and explain why they are exempt from the Laws of Thermodynamics. But the real question for everyone: what do dietitians do? The answer: what don’t dietitians do?
